Dr Shivaprakash was a former Professor of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, in Kerala. He is also a founder, member and current President of the Pediatric Cardiac Society of India. His education includes an MBBS and MS (Gen Surg) from Bangalore Medical College, an Mch (Cardiothoracic and Vascular from PGIMER from Chandigarh and a Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Royal Alexandra Hospital in New South Wales, Australia.
His clinical expertise includes exclusive pediatric and congenital heart surgeon for the last 25 years. He has performed more than 7000 surgeries and is well known for his innovative surgeries for congenital heart defects. He has been instrumental in setting up two well established pediatric cardiac surgical programs in the country and has trained many pediatric cardiac surgeons from within the country and abroad. He is also known for the following innovations and publications in congenital heart surgeries: Double Barrel Repair for Tetralogy with anomalous Coronaries, Complex Transposition surgeries, Novel techniques for Obstructed TAPVC’s, Innovative fenestrations in Fontan surgeries, Single ventricular surgeries, Pediatric Valve reconstructions and Mini-Sternotomy/cosmetic techniques for Congenital heart surgeries.
